* You may increase only one level at a time and decrease two levels at a time. Once you decrease your health coverage, you must wait two years before you are able to increase your coverage again.

Who is eligible?

  • All retired Ontario education employees, their families and survivors
  • No age restriction
  • No membership fees
  • You must reside in Ontario and be covered under OHIP at time of application

You have set your retirement date
You have retired within the last 60 days
You are already retired and want to switch from a different group plan ending within 60 days
You have not been covered by a group plan in the last 60 days
You are still working or are semi-retired

Have a dependant?
Members’ unmarried, unemployed children under the age of 21 (under 31 if attending school full-time) are eligible for dependant coverage under an RTIP plan. There is no age limit for unmarried, dependant children who are incapable of self-sustaining support due to mental or physical disability that occurred prior to age 21. Keep in mind that any two family members can qualify for couple coverage.

Cancelling your plan
If you decide to cancel your coverage after 12 months, you must wait 24 months before you can apply for RTIP coverage again.
